Our ability to respond and render help to virtually every spot on the globe is a testament to the United States’ resources, compassion and can do spirit. Our ability to help other nations in time of dire need is only limited by the receiving country’s giving permission to allow entrance or not. Most countries welcome our help but in some cases we have been refused or limited, most likely for political reasons.

The ability to mobilize quickly comes from decades of preparation to be ready for anything, be it militarily or humanitarian. The technological and infrastructure advances through the years offers a depth of resources that keeps us on the cutting edge to have the means to help in any situation.

I  watch in amazement with pride at the different military units and their specialties in equipment and manpower respond in a orderly and professional manner to accomplish their present mission in Haiti.

A large, state of the art hospital ship, in port, being readied in about 2 days instead of the normal 5 or 6, the special unit to go to set up air traffic control, ready to go with their equipment, one of the early units to arrive. Air traffic being coordinated and prioritized to allow proper flow, in and out of the one runway in Port Au Prince, from an air force base in Arizona. I wouldn’t doubt that the Seabees will be called in to repair the damaged sea port facilities as heavy equipment is going to have to be brought in by ship.

These are just a few examples of our specialty units amongst all the branches of our military that are ready to go and are beginning to go to work in a catastrophic situation.

On the civilian side we see the Red Cross and the Salvation Army, always ready to go, along with many other church related and secular groups helping to channel manpower and donations from the resources of a population that unselfishly give in time of need. Major League Baseball and the National Football League are just 2 groups that have contributed larges amounts of money and many other groups are getting in on it too.

Church groups, missionaries and various medical services have labored for years in Haiti without much recognition and fanfare, with personnel working and living in difficult situations to unselfishly help those in need, and mostly being sustained by the donations of generous people back home who have the means to give. God bless you.

Our country, in the founding documents has ensured individuals the  freedom to do as we wish, within the boundaries of the law, to work in any job, big or small business or by ourselves to make a living and even grow beyond just our needs, but also to be able to create extra wealth, it is through this extra wealth and productivity that this country is able to produce the resources to help others anywhere in the world.

I know that sounds over simplistic, but the rub comes in an out of control state and federal spending with policies that actually do more harm in helping to grow the economy and punishes small business and large ones alike, putting many out of work, thus making more people drawing unemployment and not producing, a further drain and less contribution to the economy.

Energy, specifically oil is the very bedrock of a strong economic base in any country, it is the one very thing that is responsible for the growth and wealth of our country, and yet the excessive regulation and environmental hurdles that this industry must adhere to are way out of line.  One mantra frequently used by the liberal left is “we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil” which basically means, we’re going to destroy big oil, and all of the policies the left puts out will do just that.

Cap and Trade, if passed would be the one biggest destroyer of our nations economy. Oil, natural gas, and coal will all be punished by higher taxing of so called harmful  ‘carbon emissions’ and giving that revenue to another industry that needs to grow by demand and motivation by profits to sustain itself, and not depend on the government to prop it up. By the way, energy prices will go up for the average consumer, further punishing the population. We need to offer tax breaks and incentives across the board to all industries for growth.

The other resource that facilitates and is essential to economic growth is water. The most recent glaring example of environmental policy run a muck is the state of California protecting a small 2 inch fish at the expense of a large farming region of the San Joaquin Valley. The water had been shut off to large farming area resulting in zero productivity, residual job loss, and farmers going bankrupt, in turn, affecting a large regional population.

The unseen and trickle down effect of these 2 examples are enormous, from infrastructure, engineering, computing, transportation, mechanics, and the list goes on, to the personnel needed at all levels that would be back into the work force, these people begin to spend more than just on necessities but extras too, less drawing unemployment benefits, and increasing tax revenues at all levels.

There are those that want to destroy this country, both militarily and economically, and socialism will do just that. Socialism is opposed to capitalism and free enterprise, and yet needs capitalism for it’s own existence.

For all those that have benefited by the generosity of the United States over the years, through ongoing aid, military help, or disaster rescue and relief, the next time this county is called upon to help, as the whole world looks to us, be thankful we can…And remember,

The Wealth Of A Nation.
